ESWT

ESWT stands for "extracorporeal shockwave therapy." It is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses shockwaves to treat musculoskeletal problems, such as plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, and other conditions that cause chronic pain. The shockwaves (compressed energy sound waves) are generated by a machine and are delivered to the affected area through a hand-held applicator. The shockwaves stimulate the healing process by increasing blood flow to the injured area, breaking up scar tissue, and improving the function of the musculoskeletal system.

ESWT is generally considered to be safe and effective, and it is often used as an alternative to more invasive treatments, such as surgery. The procedure is typically performed in a doctor's office or clinic and does not require any anesthesia. Side effects are generally mild pain at the site of the treatment.

It may also be used to treat other conditions, such as:

  • Tennis elbow / Golfer's elbow

  • Achilles tendonitis

  • Patellar tendonitis

  • Calcific tendonitis of the shoulder

  • Non-healing fractures

  • Bursitis
