PLANTAR FASCIITIS

ABOUT

LEADING CAUSES

There are multiple reasons one could develop plantar fasciitis. The leading biomechanical cause for plantar fasciitis is "pes planus" (fallen arch) which increases tension on the planta fascia, leading to repetitive micro trauama at the band's vulnerable attachment on the medial calcaneus.

SYMPTOMS

Some common symptoms of plantar fasciitis include:

  1. Heel pain: This is the most common symptom of plantar fasciitis. The pain is usually worst when taking the first steps in the morning or after periods of inactivity, such as after sitting for a long time.

  2. Pain in the bottom of the foot: Some people with plantar fasciitis may experience pain in the arch or bottom of the foot, in addition to heel pain.

  3. Stiffness in the heel: The heel may feel stiff and sore, especially in the morning or after periods of inactivity.

  4. Difficulty walking or standing for long periods of time: The pain and stiffness associated with plantar fasciitis can make it difficult to walk or stand for long periods of time.

  5. Swelling in the heel: Some people with plantar fasciitis may experience swelling in the heel or arch of the foot.

  6. Difficulty flexing the foot: The pain and stiffness associated with plantar fasciitis may make it difficult to flex the foot or move the toes.

INFO REGARDING CARE

Treatment of plantar fasciitis is usually a multifactorial approach that involves soft tissue manipulation to the tight structures of the foot, ankle, and calf regions paired with extremity chiropractor adjustments to the restricted joints to the feet. If warranted, the practitioner may also provide counsel on shoe inserts and kinesio-taping for the arch of the foot. Other therapeutics, such as shockwave therapy, can be highly beneficial.
