So - you recently saw your medical doctor some neck pain, low back pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel, or something similar. You got a prescription for Naproxen or Flexeril, which hasn't done much, so you look into alternative treatments. In your research, you discover that chiropractors actually are highly qualified to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including what's ailing you.
So, you get on google and search "chiropractors that accept insurance near me" and found a list of results. You've even narrowed it to one chiropractor near me - one that looks like they have a clean office with friendly staff and lots of experience treating what you have but then you see they don't accept your insurance plan......now what?!
Well, good news! There's still the likelihood that even though they're out of network with your insurance, you can still have your insurance coverage help with the cost of the chiropractic visit. This can be done with a SUPERBILL, which is an itemized receipt for the medical services you've paid out of pocket for. It contains information such as the health care provider's information, diagnosis and treatment codes, and date of service. After the visit is over, the superbill can be submitted to your insurance company, and they can do one of two things with this information:
They can give you a check for reimbursement for the medical services you've paid for (or)
They can apply what you spent towards your deductible.
Just to make sure we're on the same page - the catch of whether or not the superbill will be accepted by your insurance company depends on whether your plan provides out of network coverage. This is unique to your plan and your carrier, and you should look into this before you commit to treatment.
